MENDHAM As the Year of Consecrated Life comes to a close this month, the Sisters of Christian Charity here received the final vows of Sister Faustina Nguyen in the Chapel of Mary Immaculate in the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Christian Charity Jan. 10, the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord with Bishop Serratelli, as the main celebrant.
As the Church begins to celebrate the Year of Mercy, Sister Faustina was filled with gratitude to the Source of Divine Mercy for her vocation.
Born in Daklack, Vietnam, Sister Faustina Nguyen comes from a family full of siblings serving the Church. Her father, Cam still resides in Ho Chi Minh City and her mom is deceased. Sister Faustina has four brothers and five sisters. One of her sisters, Sister Maria Prudence, is a religious in the Congregation of Providence in Vietnam and is a formator for the temporary professed in her community. She has two brothers, who are priests — Father Joseph, who is vicar and vocation director for the Archdiocese of Vancouver, Canada and Father Peter, who is a pastor at St. Clement Parish in Ontario, Canada. Her other brothers and sisters are all married.
Sister Faustina entered the Community of the Lovers of the Cross in Da Lat, Vietnam, and professed her vows in Vietnam. She was transferred to Portland, Ore. and professed her final vows in 1995. In 2007 Sister Faustina became a U.S. citizen while studying at the University of Bismarck, Nd. She received her bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in theology. She then began her ministry of teaching pre-schoolchildren in Falls Church, Va. and then in Sacramento, Calif.
Sister Faustina entered the Sisters of Christian Charity in 2012. For the past three years she has been in the formation program and ministering at All Saints Academy in Parsippany.
She was joined by her father, Cam, her two priest brothers from Canada, many of her relatives from Canada and several members of the faculty and staff from All Saints Academy as well as many Sisters of Christian Charity.
When asked to share her thoughts about the special day Sister Faustina said, “Each sister has had an incredibly profound impact on my discernment and formation. I want to say ‘yes’ to our Church, ‘yes’ to the family of the Sisters of Christian Charity, and ‘yes’ to a life of service to God’s people.”
