CLIFTON Bishop Serratelli will ordain 14 men of diverse ages, cultural backgrounds and life experiences to the priesthood — part of the largest ordination class in the Paterson Diocese since 1974 and largest that he has ordained — at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 23 in the St. Philip the Apostle Church here.
The following transitional deacons will be ordained to the priesthood: Rev. Mr. Darwin Jesus Lastra Barraza, Rev. Mr. Luis A. Hernandez, Rev. Mr. Jose M. Jimenez, Rev. Mr. Milton Edilzon Camargo Muñoz and Rev. Mr. Giovanni Rodriguez Osorno, all of Colombia; Rev. Mr. Lemmuel Alonzo Camacho of the Philippines; Rev. Mr. Daniel Jan Chajkowski of Canada; Rev. Mr. Jakub Krzysztof Grzybowski, Rev. Mr. Lukasz Iwanczyk, Rev. Mr. Mateusz Jasniewicz, Rev. Mr. Maciej Kranc, Rev. Mr. Kamil Stachowiak and Rev. Mr. Paweł Tomczyk, all of Poland; and Rev. Mr. Stephen Prisk of Clifton.
Through the laying on of Bishop Seratelli’s hands, at Christ’s command, and the offering of the consecratory prayer, at the Church’s direction, these men will become the “laborers for the harvest”, said Father Hubert Jurjewicz, diocesan vocations director.
“Matthew tells us that when Jesus looked around at the crowd, ‘his heart was moved with pity … for they were like sheep without a shepherd.’ Today the Church in the Diocese of Paterson witnesses the fulfillment of the God’s promise contained in the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah: ‘I will give you shepherds after my own heart who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding‘ (Jer 3: 15),” Father Jurjewicz said. “St. John Vianney, patron of diocesan priests, reminds us that ‘the priesthood is nothing more than the heart of Jesus Christ,’ beating loudly and ceaselessly among and for the people of God, so that they are no longer ‘like sheep without a shepherd.’ ”
Bishop Serratelli invites all in the diocese to attend the ordination on Saturday morning to support the 14 men who will be ordained.
